Gaia is an international actress, model and producer, working between New York City, Slovenia, EU and the Balkan region. She is a member of FIA (European Federation of Actors), NYWIFT (New York Women in Film and TV) and EWA (European Women’s AV Network). For her role of Claire in THE MAIDS, she received a 2019 NYITA Award nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Leading Role.

Gaia OPENED “THE DOLL’S HOUSE, PART 2” AT THE LIVING ROOM THEATRE IN VERMONT AND “EDEN” AT TRANSFORMA THEATRE COMPANY IN NEW YORK CITY. 

2020

IN 2020, Gaia returned back to New York City from the European run of Outer Gaea Company‘s international adaptation of Antigone, playing the titular role. 

Acting Training

In USA, Gaia graduated from Circle in the Square Theatre School and studied at The Acting Studio, HB Studio and The Barrow Group. Previous training: Actors Studio SloveniaLjubljana Dance Theatre, and many other international workshops.

University Education

She earned her MA in Psychology at the Ljubljana University’s Faculty of Arts with an international research of Slovenian and USA actors and acting styles as well as different historical approaches to acting across cultures.

Teaching Artistry

As a member of Taka Tuka Theatre in Education Company, she has been working as an international teaching artist, collaborating with artists from United Kingdom, Mexico, China, Thailand, Africa, Greece, Slovakia, Hungary and other European countries.

Curriculum Vitae

Coming from a Slovenian acting family, Gaia was on stage before even born (in the tummy of her mother, playing the Lion in the Wizard of Oz, alongside her dad in the titular role) and grew up as a theatre kid.

While studying Psychology at the Faculty of Arts (University of Ljubljana), she trained at the Actors Studio SloveniaLjubljana Dance Theatre, JSKD, and worked at various theatres, such as Sentjakobsko Theatre, KUD France Preseren, Glej Theatre and SiTi Theatre.

Psychology and acting, combined with her passion for traveling, brought her to collaboration with Taka Tuka Theatre in Education Company. Her Theatre and Drama in Education focused work has been very international. She collaborated with organisations like Estudia Busqueda de Pantomima Teatro in Mexico, Moradokmai Theatre Community in Thailand, and Die Gorillas Improvisational Theatre in Germany. 

She first came to New York in 2010 to take acting classes and fell in love with the city.  She trained at The Acting Studio, Inc., HB Studio and The Barrow GroupHer passion for acting in New York City not being a seasonal breeze, she moved to the city in 2015 and graduated from Circle in the Square Theatre School‘s professional conservatory in 2017.

After graduation, she has been involved with multiple New York and regional theatre and film productions. She collaborated with New York New Works Theatre Festival, HB Studio Playwrights Theater, The Actors Studio, Living Room TheatreThe Seeing Place Theater, Theatre Breaking Through Barriers, and others.

Since the pandemic, she is also working in Slovenia and surrounding countries. She has appeared in an Italian series Libera, Slovenian series “Ja, Chef” and “Telenovela”, filmed “Izgubljeni Sin – The Lost Son” film with Darko Stante, did a commercial for McDonalds Slovenia. Her latest theatre productions include Glej Theatre‘s production “Soap Opera” and “Kraj Sveta u Tri Cina” (The end of the world in three acts), a co.production between SNG Maribor, the Belgrade Drama Theatre and Zagreb Youth Theatre.
